  • Established as Advisory Board in 1871 in order to conduct inquiries and establish regulations for a civil service
  • In 1873, the name changed from Advisory Board to Civil Service Commission
  • In 1874, appropriations were withheld and the Commission abolished
  • In 1883, the Civil Service Commission was re-established
